Denver, CO – March 6, 2019 – Velocity Global and Rosenberg’s Bagels have partnered to benefit The Cristina M. Weir Foundation. The two Denver businesses are hosting an event to raise funds for the foundation to fulfill its mission of empowering high school students in Weir’s hometown of Prince William County, Virginia, to achieve their leadership, educational, and personal goals.
In 2018, The Cristina M. Weir Foundation was established to honor the life and tragic death of Cristina Marie Weir. Cristina was killed in a violent attack at her apartment in the Five Points neighborhood of Denver, Colorado. In an effort to turn this tragedy into something positive, her family formed the organization so that Weir’s dreams of helping others live on. The foundation provides aid to high school students who face personal and financial challenges with continuing education.
Velocity Global and Rosenberg’s Bagels are hosting the event on March 15, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. The time and date of the event holds incredible significance to Velocity Global and Weir’s family, as it was her work anniversary at the company. Velocity Global keeps her memory alive through a peer-to-peer bonus opportunity named in her honor that rewards employees for living the company’s five values—Professionalism, Empowerment, Integrity, Velocity, and Service. Cristina wholeheartedly embraced these values while working at Velocity Global.
“Not a day goes by that we don’t miss our dear friend and colleague, Cristina,” said CEO of Velocity Global, Ben Wright. “The foundation created by her family is an incredible reflection of Cristina’s legacy to help students climb higher.”
The location of the event also holds significance. It was at Rosenberg’s Bagels where Cristina frequently visited, and where her mother and godmother stopped after the trial, when Cristina’s perpetrator was found guilty and sentenced to 72 years in prison for her murder. The shop’s owner, Joshua Pollack, was moved after hearing the story of what brought them to the bagel shop, and wanted to show his support.
Joshua Pollack, owner of Rosenberg’s Bagels, said, “we were fortunate to have Cristina as a regular at our store; she embodied everything we love about the Five Points neighborhood and its sense of community. We are honored to host the foundation’s first fundraiser in her memory.”
Prior to the Denver event, the foundation is hosting a fundraiser on March 9, 2019 in Warrenton, Virginia, where funds raised contribute to scholarships for deserving students in the area.
